Generic Norwegian Hat

get the chart (PDF)

You’ll need:

*yarn: I used Dale of Norway Hauk in natural (contrast color) and black (main color)- one skein each, plus 20g sport weight Merino wool or cotton for the lining, and scrap yarn for provisional cast on.  (You can sub other colors or another sport weight wool if you prefer.  You'll need about 100 meters (50 g) of each color, if you keep your color use even.)

*needles: US 3 double pointed needles, or long circular for magic loop, or whatever size you need for gauge

* gauge: 6 sts. = 1" in stockinette

* size: The pattern makes a hat 21" in circumference, which fits a 23" or so head wonderfully.  Be sure to have nice long floats so there is stretch to the hat, otherwise it might be too small.  If you're a smidge above of below the measurements listed, using a different needle to change the gauge would be great.  Remember to keep your floats loose so there is some stretch to the hat.
